Wwoofing

“Work is love made visible” Kahlil Gibran

WWOOF stands for willing workers on organic farms. We offer a full days food and accommodation to people from all over the world in return for half a days work (4-6 hours usually). The work can vary from planting, seeding, weeding, watering, harvesting, composting, building to painting, decorating, cleaning, cooking and washing. The work available depends on the season and the projects we have going on at that time, so it is best to email first to enquire. We enjoy the exchange that wwoofers bring into our house as there is always so much to learn and even more to be done, especially when we are running courses. We hold seminars in a variety of alternative therapies and you are welcome to join yoga classes when they are scheduled. The accommodation is most likely to be a tent in the Summer months and a room in the house in the Winter, depending on the number of people staying at that time.

At Sunshine House we try to grow our own organic fruits, vegetables and herbs and use them for either cooking or making medicinal, massage oils. We have a large garden with orange and lemon trees, fig, eucalyptus and almond trees as well as a vegetable allotment where we grow whatever we can during the right season. We plant and harvest, using the cycle of the moon and believe that all of our wwoofers should talk to the plants as much as possible. We are all from the earth and need to feel her presence to gain enough vitality to continue our journey in this life.

A few wwoofing practicalities:

  • It’s best to call or email and ask about dates and availability at least a month ahead

  • Try to call us beforehand to explain how to get here

  • Try to bring old clothes, boots, sunhat, flip flops, mosquito repellent and net

  • We have a cat and a dog

  • Greece can be very hot in the Summer and very cold in the Winter

  • We have no set working hours but 4-6 hours is what we expect

  • We have bikes you can use on your day off

  • We encourage you to support our fair trade goods and organic locally made produce

  • Internet café is half an hour by foot

  • All musical instruments are welcome

We ask for you to come with an open mind, be willing to share your knowledge and do your work with love and positivity.

"The life force that pulsates in the trees, plants and animals is the same life force that pulsates within us. The same life energy that gives us the power to speak and to sing is the power behind the song of the bird and the roar of the lion. A sincere seeker or a true believer cannot harm nature because he or she sees nature as God. He doesn't experience nature as separate from himself. He the real lover of nature. The Earth, trees, plants and animals are all manifestations of God. We should love them as we love our own self."
