Traditional Thai Yoga Massage – Beginners course

“May I mindfully meet the suffering of others with the grace of an open heart so that I may compassionately share with them the emotions natural to our human condition” Lord Buddha

This course gives a solid practical training on the art of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage, with enough material to give a full body two hour massage. It is for both beginners and practitioners of other kinds of bodywork and there are no prerequisites for the course – everybody can do it and everybody is welcome.

Based on the book “The Traditional Art of Thai Massage” by Asokananda and our own prepared materials, we travel, day by day, from the feet to the head with daily demonstrations, theory and practice time. The overall structure is as follows:

Day 1: Introduction to Thai massage (history & philosophy)

The feet and energy lines of the legs

Day 2: Single leg stretches
Day 3: Double leg stretches
Day 4: Stomach, chest, arms and hands
Day 5: Side position
Day 6: Practice day
Day 7: Day off – at the beach
Day 8: Back – energy lines and stretches
Day 9: Shoulders, neck and head
Day 10: Face

Thai massage therapy points, energy lines
Oils / herbal hot compress

Day 11: Practice Day
Day 12: Evaluation – practical test with constructive feedback

Upon completion of the course a certificate of attendance from the International Society of Thai Massage (the Sunshine Network) is awarded.

We usually recommend that our students new to Thai massage practice on as many people as possible (average around 50) – close friends and family before making it a means to earn a living. With practice, experience and heightened sensitivity the massage goes deeper and awareness of different bodies helps us develop intuition. Keeping a log book is also very useful.
