Embodied Trauma Healing Retreat with Ralf
25th May – 1st June 2019
A seven day seminar on working with trauma, using touch and dialogue.
This retreat is for bodyworkers/ massage therapists, yoga teachers, coaches, psychotherapists, educators and all others who want to enhance their understanding of and develop essential skills in working with trauma.
It will also be a profound and healing personal experience within the wonderful Sunshine House community on Evia island.
If you work with people, you work with trauma. Bodyworkers/ Thai massage therapists: Do you ever wonder in your practice:
- How can I work with emotions and psychological experience in my treatments?
- What is tension (and collapse) in the body actually related to?
- How can I address the root cause of physiological and psychological stress in body and mind?
- How can I use language/ dialogue to deepen the effect of my work?
- How can I use relational dynamics with my clients for more effective sessions?
Trauma is at the root of human dysfunction. It is the residue of all the experiences that couldn’t be digested, individually and collectively. These experiences will take on a life of their own inside us, creating symptoms and dis-ease.
If we take up the sacred work of trauma healing and bring relationship, presence and compassion to our previously unfelt intensity, this, will over time, transform us into wiser, more mature and compassionate human beings. This is the alchemy of trauma healing.
This retreat will be transformative for you as a human being as well as a therapist. It will teach you how to work with the root causes of human suffering directly and effectively, on a physiological as well as psychological level.
The course is held in English.
This highly practical seminar will explore the effects of both shock and developmental trauma on ourselves and the people we work with and teach you powerful skills to facilitate positive shifts on a somatic and emotional level.
It will include presentations on trauma healing, a variety of awareness and movement exercises as well as partner and group processes. Our main focus will be on developing therapeutic skills to use touch and dialogue in the process of trauma healing. (These will differ from Thai massage techniques but add greatly to your understanding as well as efficiency as a therapist if you are a
Thai massage practitioner.)
The content is based on the work of Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing), Dr Laurence Heller
(NARM), and Raja Selvam (Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy), and others.
The workshop is facilitated by Ralf Marzen, clinical psychologist, trauma therapist and bodyworker. Ralf is trained in a number of trauma healing modalities including NARM, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Integrated Somatic Psychotherapy (ISP). He co-teaches on the NARM trainings as a senior assistant. Ralf is also the director of Mudita School of Thai Yoga Massage and StillPoint Centre for WellBeing in London. He has over 20 years experience working with individuals and groups.
